God Sends Comfort in Many Ways

Dear Michelle,

Here is the first thing I thought of: I've been pretty lonely in the recent past.  I would sit at home all day working on the computer.  My husband works outside the house and I don't have any children or even any family nearby. At that time, being in a new country, I didn't even have any friends.

About a year before my 'miracle' happened I saw a commercial with this mini black and white Boxer type of a dog in it.  It took some searching to find out that it was a Boston Terrier.  I was in love.  My husband and I talked about getting one.  I could not find any rescues in Canada.  The breeders said the going price for a puppy was over a thousand.  We really could not afford that much.  So I sat home, alone.

Then, at the end of summer, my parents came for a visit.  We went to a fair, where the 'Eukanuba Superdogs' were performing.  One was a Boston Terrier.  I loved watching him run around, but the real surprise was after the show.  It was so crowded.  They were letting people see and pet the dogs in the foyer, but you couldn't see a foot in front of you.  We passed the Bull dog. The exit was near, so I figured I would not get a chance to see the Boston Terrier.  Then I see this little black bump on the table near the door, and lo and behold, it was the Boston Terrier.

You should have seen the smile on my face.  I crouched down and he gave me a big kiss on the lips.  After my parents left I emailed around again, with a renewed urge to get a Boston Terrier.  None of them had puppies, there were no rescues.  And then a breeder up North from us emails me saying she had two one year old Bostons, whom she had kept to show, but they weren't suited for it and she needed to find families to adopt them.

By the time I replied only one was left, named Boonie.  I told the breeder that we couldn't afford the going price, and even though there was another family interested who would probably pay full price, she lowered it 25% for us.  So after a week of talking on email and via phone we drove the long drive up North to get him, rather last minute.  The timing of my parents visit, seeing the dog show, was perfect.

The Lord gives good gifts to his children.

I would need comfort, sitting alone in the house two days later, glued to the television.  You see, We got him September 9th 2001.
