A Very Special Gift, a Personalized Journal There are so many journals on the market to be purchased today, you can take your pick. They have created wonderful new journals for moms, dads, grandparents, you name it. I have given these as gifts and received them too, and I highly recommend them. But if you are looking for something a little less pricey or more personalized, you can still give a journal that will be a very special gift. A blank journal is what you're looking for. They are sold in bookstores, department stores, discount stores and even drug stores. The come in all different styles, colors and sizes. Take your time in finding the right one. Choose a color and style that represents the gift recipient. You will find that some of the journals are very thin, with fewer pages. This may be appropriate for someone who might be intimidated by a large volume of blank pages, but I prefer the thicker journals that give you room to write until your heart's content. The most important part of this gift though, is the inscription you write inside. You can write a personal note with warm sentiments for the recipient. Or you can write a more generalized inscription that goes something like this... "Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things." Philippians 4:18 (NIV) A few months ago, our Sunday School Teacher at church handed the entire class a blank, inexpensive journal with these instructions... "For the next 10 days, write down something that God has done in your life, something that seemed impossible." This was a wonderful idea, both the giving of this gift and the receiving too. How many times has something special happened in your life? There is power in the written word, it helps us to remember those things we sometimes put on the back shelf of our minds. This little project not only helped us to bring those wondrous events back into focus for the moment, but also gave us the opportunity to leave them as a legacy for our children, and their children. * * *
