Somersizing

I have been dieting off and on for 4 years now. I have tried just about everything possible. I read a lot of women’s magazines with dieting articles, but nothing has worked for me. Until now.

I got a tip from an online friend that has lost 13lbs in 1 month. I was intrigued to say the least! She did it all by “Somersizing”. I just had to learn more. It's all in the book by Suzanne Somers, Eat Great Lose Weight. I immediately ordered it online and told myself I would give this new diet one month.

I got the book on a Saturday and went to the grocery store and bought all the foods it has listed as okay to eat. There is a small list of bad foods. They are called Funky Foods in the book. It was not too hard to give them up. Well, except for my chocolate and ice cream!

We all start at Level 1. This healthier way of eating mostly consists of food combining. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this new way of eating but so far it has been working great for me. I eat until I am full, drink plenty of water and keep a minimal exercise routine. I have 2 kids now, my daughter is 4 and my son is 4 months, so exercise is hard to get in. I make sure I walk at least 3 times a week. The walk is usually only 10 to 20 minutes. But I power walk.

I lost 5lbs in the first 6 days of this new way of eating. I really don’t like to call it dieting. When I think of the word dieting being hungry comes to mind and with Somersizing, I’m not hungry! That's the best part of this eating plan.  I plan on keeping this new way of eating for quite some time.

There is a Level 2. It is very similar to Level 1 but you can “cheat”. I have not reached Level 2 yet but I will! I still have about 13lbs before I will be at Level 2 but I don't think it will take long. And I owe it all to Somersizing.

Here is a little sample of which foods are good and which ones are not. In the "Proteins/Fats" foods you can have almost all kinds of cheeses, meats, fish and seafood. With the "Carbos" there is less of a selection mainly because the breads need to be whole grain breads or pastas. But you have a big selection of beans and non-fat dairy products. With Veggies, you name it, you can eat it! All except for a few things like carrots and potatoes. I was surprised about the carrots, but they do have a lot of sugar in them. There is a small list of "Funky Foods." Mostly things we all know that we should avoid. Such as caffeine, alcohol and sugars.

Chapter 10 has a great shopping list to get your started in the right direction. This chapter is also where all the delicious recipes are. If you are anything like me, you need some new healthier recipes! And this book is full of them.

If someone asked me to rate this book using a 5 star rating, I give it 6!

*Update, Liz lost another 3 1/2 pounds the following week and still says the best part about this diet is that she's not hungry!  (Please note - she says she did experience hunger for the first day, and for some people this might last a bit longer.  There is a huge amount of foods you can eat, and you just need to eat them so you won't be hungry!)  The plan sounds healthy and easy to follow, and has several years of success to back it up.
