Getting
Organized #1 - Taking the First Step If you're anything like me, you're always trying to get more organized and do all that you can. Yet somehow, you find yourself drowning in clutter, again! My New Year's resolution this year was to get my house completely organized, but actually, losing a few pounds might have been easier! But I'm sticking to my plan, and here's the first step to doing just that... |
If I want to get more organized, I'm going to have to work on it myself! It's not going to happen on it's own, and no one else can do it for me.
As a working mom of 4, I could really use some help, especially in getting my home cleaner and more organized. Occasionally, I even daydream about paying someone to come in once a week and just clear my desk off, which takes me about 2-3 hours every Saturday.
But, who in the world is going to be able to do that for me? Who can sort through the stacks of mail, kid's school papers, and general junk? Who else would know what goes where and who needs what, or even, what goes in the trash. Well, okay, the trash might be somewhat recognizable, but you know what I mean!
The fact is, I'm the most qualified person for this job because it's my stuff. Although some of the clutter belongs to my husband, and some of it belongs to my children, I'm the one who knows where everything should go.
However, before I could begin the process of getting my home completely organized, I had to take the fist step and get an overall picture of what needed to be done. I had to make a commitment that I can, and will, do this.
I made a mental list of every nook and cranny in this house that needs to be cleaned, decluttered or organized. I'm not getting overwhelmed though; I'm just making a list of areas that need help. Like the closets, the basement, my office files... you name it.
Okay, so it's going to be a looooong list. But, I'm not giving up, not this time.
What about you? Does your house need some sprucing up or decluttering? Do your kids have trouble finding their shoes in the morning? Are you so overwhelmed by the job ahead that you find yourself unable to face even one small closet?
If so, why don't you join me in my year-long journey to getting my house organized!
