Getting Organized #2 - You Have Two
Decisions to Make You’ve already made up your mind that you’re going to get more organized, and you’ve agreed that no one else can do this job for you. You’re it kiddo. Now you’ve got to make a few more decisions as you begin to put your plan into action, and I promise they will be easy! |
Decide What Level of Organization You Really Want
You need to decide what level of organization you really want or need. Do you want every closet, every drawer and every shelf alphabetized and/or put in the most orderly fashion possible? Do you want everything to just look nice and be easy to get to (and be put back after it’s used)? Or, do you just need to declutter and clean things out so you can find your stuff? I’m bringing this up because I believe everyone will want a different level of organization desired, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
What may be considered *organized* to one person may seem like a mess to another. And on the other hand, the highest level of organization (which I’m personally aiming for but will settle for any level at this point!) may seem just too detailed and even annoying to some of you. The main goal is that your home works well for you and your family, and doesn’t create more work or stress. So it’s up to you to decide how organized you want your home to be.
It’s only 3 months into the year and I can already say this is the best New Year’s resolution I’ve ever made. Not only is it attainable, but it’s making a difference in our daily lives already, I can’t wait to see what the house looks like come this December. Speaking of December, if you haven’t read my article on Avoiding the Christmas Shopping Blues you might want to check that out.
Set a Time Frame
After deciding which level of home or personal organization you need at this time, make a commitment to get it done in a set time frame, but no latter than the end of the year. A year may seem like a long time, but you know the time will fly by so quickly and it will have come and gone before you know it. I think an entire year is a perfectly reasonable amount of time for a big project like this, especially for us moms that have an additional work schedule. As much as some people like to believe about us women, we are not super human! ;o)
Now if your home is small or you live in an apartment, that's great... you might be able to accomplish getting completely organized in just a few months! But even still, if you are very busy like I am, this may present a problem. Feel free to set your time frame for whatever you need it to be, we are doing this because we want to, not because we have to!
