Persevering
Copyright 2001 by Diane Sample

For many years I've prayed a prayer,
"Lord, help my unbelief!"
And you were there to comfort me
Through times of deepest grief.

I've felt the power I've received
From standing on Your Word.
I've known the joy beyond compare
When 'twas Your voice I heard.

But there've been times when answers came
Not quite as I expected.
You said "No," or silent been;
Somehow I felt rejected.

Your power to work on my behalf
Is real; I know it's true,
I've prayed and sought to do Your will.
It seems I can't get through.

Assured You've never left me, Lord
Though I don't understand,
You're sure to work out for my good
What is your perfect plan.

So help me, Lord, when trials come
And I must persevere,
To walk the hardest paths of life
Unenslaved by fear.

For faith can't come when I can see
Clear the journey's end,
And trust can't grow if I am tossed
By every little wind.

The winds will come as surely as
Will rise the setting sun.
I'll cling to You through every storm
Until your work is done.

Persevering is hard when the mountain of our circumstance seems bigger than God.  Goliath loomed over little David, but he knew who he was and Whom he represented.  Persevering is hard, but God is faithful. Speak to the mountain.

 Amen

Love Diane
