Renewal
by Melissa Rives

What visions spill before my eyes,
When sleeping green awakes…
And warm sweet breath of breezes blow
To thaw the streams and lakes.

And colors dance before my eyes
While flowers break the skin…
Of nature's thawing soil of spring,
Where they are born again.

The barren trees shake off the dead,
Limbs reaching newfound height…
The shades of winter fade away
And beckon springtime's light.

Life cycles always spiraling
A mix of birth and death…
To stir its wisdom in my soul
Until my dying breath.

So fragile here I stand beneath
This universal sky…
To feel the rhythm of the whole
That beats for you and I.

To grow and reach beyond ourselves,
Is Mother's lesson told…
Beneath the barren trees of life
Find Heaven's purest gold.
