Baked Beans
by Michelle Jones

This is one of the ways we make baked beans in the south, though there are endless versions. Feel free to send your recipe in any time, we'd love to hear about it!

Bush's Baked Beans has come out with so many great versions (available canned), I wonder how many people are opting for this quick substitute instead of making their own? I bought a can the other week that tasted just like the kind we make at home, I was surprised. But if you'd like to know how to make them yourself, here ya go...

You can make the fresh beans yourself, but I tried it once and once was enough. Start with the cheap and plain can of baked beans, add a few pieces of bacon and brown sugar (or molasses is good too!) and cook on low heat for 30 minutes so the flavors will blend. They are delicious!

Another way we cook them is to add French fried onion rings, the same ones used for green bean casseroles.  Just stir 1/4 of the can of fried onion rings inside the beans and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, then top with the rest of the can and bake for another 5 minutes or so until they are slightly browned... it's delicious!
