Michelle's Trail Mix for Kids

I've seen all kinds of trail mix recipes, starting way back with the original Chex Cereal version we all grew up with years ago. But apparently, our dear friends over in Australia don't eat the stuff because when I wrote about making some for one of my children's class parties at school, this was the reply she sent... "Trail mix Michelle???????????????? Sounds like something you feed to horses. :-) Explanation needed for your poor Aussie friend." I've decided to keep my friend's identity anonymous, but some of you probably know who she is. ;o)
After having a good laugh together, I wrote her back and told her I'd publish my recipe in the next issue. So, here it is...
Ingredients:
4 cups small pretzel twists
2 cups roasted cocktail peanuts (store brand is fine)
2 cups fresh Sun-Maid raisins
4 cups Cheerios cereal
An entire large bag of M&M's, about 2-3 cups I think.
Directions:
Dump all the ingredients into a giant bowl and mix together with clean hands... the kids will love helping out with this too. Divide trail mix into small plastic bags or store in airtight containers. This version is just delicious, a perfect mix of salty and sweet, with some healthy stuff and protein as well. You can add mini-marshmallows but only if served immediately. Makes about 20 servings or more.
Enjoy, my dear Aussie friend!!
