Our Hope, Our Peace

Tuesday, September 11, 2001 -- America grieves today over the tragedy of terrorist attacks at the two World Trade Center towers in New York, and at the Pentagon in Washington. "Freedom has been attacked this morning…," said President George W. Bush shortly after he learned of the bombings.
Christians worldwide are uniting in prayer for the victims and their loved ones. They are also asking God to give wisdom to our leaders on how to best respond to the attack as they make decisions regarding our national security.
Those of us who know the Lord Jesus Christ have Someone we can go to for comfort and help in times like these. Although we are shocked and grieved at what has happened, as Christians we should not be greatly surprised. The Bible tells us to expect such things. "And when ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet." Mark 13:7
This should serve to remind us that we all need to be ready to meet God at anytime, anywhere. We never know when we will face death. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." Hebrews 9:27 As Christians, we don't want to be ashamed when we face him. We should also be praying for our unsaved loved ones.
Let's remember that as the children of God, we have a hope and assurance that others do not have. Death is just a passageway between us and the Lord. "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Cor. 5:8
We have "read the last chapter of the Book" and we know that there WILL be an end to the evil that now prevails, and this gives us a hope and peace that can't be taken away, not even by terrorists. (See Revelation, chapters 21 and 22.)
